Computers Assisting People, aka CAP Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit Cleveland Ohio corporation.
Long before the term "digital divide" became ubiquitous, CAP volunteers were working to bring the life-changing power of technology to all the people of Cleveland and beyond.
Earlier in the year the CAP website was shit down by a DDOS attack. Now, finally, we are back online with a somewhat rudimentary html website (as opposed to our fancy WordPress site)

5th annual Cleveland GiveCamp
GiveCamp is a weekend-long event where software developers, designers, database administrators, project managers and creative professionals donate their time to create software and web-based applications for non-profit organizations.
The 5th annual Cleveland GiveCamp took place at the LeanDog Boat (former Hornblowers) and Burke Lakefront Airport on the shores of Lake Erie.
The volunteers are the most talented and coolest people you will ever want to meet. Over the weekend of July 18-20, 2014 they created new websites, apps and other work for 21 local non-profits. This included a new web site for Computers Assisting People (CAP).
We will have lots of photos and videos from the weekend soon. Come back here or follow us on Twitter (@greatlakesgeek and @ClevelandCAP) for updates.
Here is a short video with Howard Pearce, the CAP Project Team leader.

Cleveland's Diversity at Work
Computers Assisting People (CAP) is a Cleveland non-profit that has worked to bridge the Digital Divide since the mid-90s. Since inception, CAP volunteers have refurbished and donated over 15,000 computers to over 450 schools and non-profits in Cleveland.
On Saturday, CAP moved to its new location at 2800 Euclid and a diverse group of volunteers helped out - various races, all ages, men and women - a great microcosm of our community. Here are 2 photos of some of the volunteers. (Debbie Hanson is not in the photos because she took them)

Beware of Rascal House Cleveland at 20th and Euclid
Beware of Rascal House Cleveland at 20th and Euclid.
We placed a large order today for the
volunteers who were helping move Computers Assisting People (CAP) to its new
location.
3 people heard the Rascal
House person say the price (and repeat it) when we gave the credit card number.
When the pizzas showed up the bill was $100 higher
than they told us! One hundred dollars!
We called the manager and he would not take
responsibility or admit the error. (some of the CAP volunteers in these 2 photos)
Since
we had about 30 hungry volunteers we ate the extra $100 (and still tipped the
driver – it wasn’t his fault!) but we
will not eat Rascal House food again.

Computers Assisting People Work Session
We had a good work session at Computers Assisting People (CAP) today.
Dan McMillan brought his son Liam and some students from John Marshall High School who helped us with some heavy lifting.
And the usual crew of CAP volunteers helped get PCs out to the community.
In this photo, 4 CAP volunteers pose with a Pastor of a Cleveland Church. CAP is providing PCs, printers, etc for a PC lab at the Church.
