Liszt Concert in the Hungarian Cultural Garden

Each year the Hungarian Cultural Garden puts on a free performance featuring the music of Franz Liszt for the community. The last several years the talented students and teachers from the Aurora School of Music led by founder and director Vera Holczer-Waroquet, have performed.

The weather was perfect and the performers were amazing.

Hungarian studies at CSU

A special announcement was made at the end of the Liszt concert program in the Hungarian Cultural Garden on June 23, 2019.


Endre Szentkiralyi, president of the United Hungarian Societies, announced that starting in 2020 the Hungarian government will pay for 4 years of a Hungarian professor to teach at Cleveland State University.

Liszt Concert in the Hungarian Cultural Garden

After an 80th anniversary program including singing of the Himnusz, a retrospective on the Garden and introduction of dignitaires and people present at the 1938 dedication, Hungarian Cultural Garden president Carolyn Balogh turned the program over to Vera Holczer, founder and president of the Aurora School of Music.

Several performers played pieces by Liszt, Bartok, Debussy and Brahms.  




A highlight was the piano duet of the popular Hungarian Dances Number 5 by Liszt by Vera Holczer and  Ruth Desiree Logan.

Hungarian Cultural Garden 80th anniversary


The Hungarian Cultural Garden was formally dedicated in 1938 making 2018 the 80th anniversary of the Garden. The Hungarian Cultural Garden is one of about 30 ethnic gardens in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.

The Hungarian Garden held an 80th anniversary event with singing of the Himnusz, retrospective on the Garden's history, introduction of dignitaries and more.



It was great that several people who were in attendance at the dedication in 1938 were at the 2018 event.

Reformed School Choir of Pecs, Hungary tours Cleveland Garden

The Reformed School Choir of Pecs, Hungary is currently comprised of forty teenaged members and six adult teachers.  The choir travels in various parts of Hungary and to Hungarians living in the diaspora throughout the year. This is the first time that they performed in North America.

 The choir dedicated this performance to commemorating and celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. 

Before their evening performance at the First Hungarian Reformed Church they toured the Hungarian Cultural Garden in Cleveland Ohio. 

Of course this included the obligatory selfies.

The choir travels in various parts of Hungary and to Hungarians living in the diaspora throughout the year. This is the first time that they performed in North America.

This is the last piece of the performance in the Hungarian Cultural Garden.
