Making Happy Chinese New Year Dumplings

On January 31st, the Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University held the first workshop in the Chinese Culture Workshop Series; making dumplings to celebrate the approaching Chinese Spring Festival which will be held on February 16, 2018 and Chinese New Year Celebration which will be held on February 24, 2018.

Chinese cuisine enjoys worldwide prestige. Dumplings, are a traditional, mouth- watering comfort food, which make dumplings attractive to students on campuses and citizens around the world.

The bride (and groom) wear red

The bride (and groom) wear red

Young ladies from the Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University showed various traditional Chinese dresses and hats at a celebration of the Lunar New Year 2015 Year of the Goat. They showed traditional Chinese fashion, emperor and queen's dresses as well as wedding dresses which are usually red for both the bride and groom.

The Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University, Asian Services In Action, Inc., the Chinese American Faculty & Staff Association, Cleveland Asian Festival, the Cleveland Contemporary Chinese Culture Association, the Chinese Professionals and Entrepreneurs Association, the Cleveland Public Library, Media Design Imaging, OCA Cleveland Chapter, and Westlake Chinese School gathered together for a celebration of the Lunar New Year.

Indian Holi Festival in Cleveland

FICA, Cleveland State University Center for International Services and Programs (CISP) and Indian Student Association (ISA) hosted a Holi celebration in Cleveland at CSU on March 29, 2014.

The "Spring Festival" was greeted with a surprise blizzard of more than 5" of snow but people braved the elements for the good food, camaraderie and especially the performances - both traditional and modern.

Mayor Ralph Perk's 100th birthday celebration

Ralph J. Perk served as the 52nd mayor of Cleveland, Ohio. He was born on January 19, 1914 which makes this the 100th anniversary of his birth.

A celebration commemorating the event was held on January 17, 2014 in the Michael Schwarz Library of Cleveland State University (CSU).


Perk was known for his outreach to the ethnic communities and his International Fair on Mall C.

He was of Czech descent and started the American Nationalities Movement in the late 1950's.

Cleveland Indians Experimental Wind Turbine


The Cleveland Indians continue their pioneering efforts re sustainability (solar panels, recycling, etc.) with the installation of a wind turbine at Progressive Field. Assistant director of operations Brad Mohr says they worked on the wind turbine with their neighbors from Cleveland State University. The wind turbine is located on the south-east corner of the ballpark.
