Slovak Struggle toward the Cleveland Agreement

Cleveland Agreement between Czechs and Slovaks in 1915

Stephen J Sebesta, PhD spoke at the 100th anniversary commemoration of the Cleveland Agreement at the Historic Bohemian National Hall on Broadway Ave. in Cleveland.  His speech was titled “The Cleveland Agreement – The First Major Declaration of Cooperation between Czechs and Slovaks in the US to support an independent Czechoslovakian State.”  This is a part of his speech.

Cleveland Agreement 100th closing and Bartered Bride newsd

Paul Burik thanked the crowd for coming to the 100th anniversary commemoration of the Cleveland Agreement at the Historic Bohemian National Hall on Broadway Ave. in Cleveland.  He introduced Jarmilla Skorepa who said that for the first time in 60 years a full production of The Bartered Bride play would be performed on the stage.

Slovak poem about General Milan Stefanik by Denise Ivan-Antus

Denise Ivan-Antus spoke at the 100th anniversary commemoration of the Cleveland Agreement at the Historic Bohemian National Hall on Broadway Ave. in Cleveland. She recited a poem in Slovak about General Milan Stefanik and dedicated the poem to her father. 33 years earlier her father brought her to the same location to recite another poem in Slovak.

Wreath for, and letter from, Thomas Masaryk

Paul Burik was the MC for the 100th anniversary commemoration of the Cleveland Agreement at the Historic Bohemian National Hall on Broadway Ave. in Cleveland.  He told of placing a wreath at the statue of Thomas Masaryk every October 28. He also said that while 100 years seems like a long time it is really only 3 generations and how a grandson of Frank Vacha had a letter from Masaryk from 1922.

Biljana Regan is a folklorist and passionate collector of traditional apparel from the Balkan region.  She brought her collection of traditional Serbian fashions to a Serbian Fashion and Music Journey at Tri-C West in Cleveland (Parma).  Reagan and Nada Martinovic produced the event.
