Leading cause of death among Asian Americans is Cancer

Li Li, MD, PhD has over 25 years of experience as a primary care doctor and family practitioner.  Dr. Li is also a Mary Ann Swetland Professor of Environmental Health Sciences at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.  He spoke at an event hosted by Immigration Attorney Margaret Wong about the health issues of the Asian population.

 In this video, Dr. Li says that the leading cause of death among Asian Americans is Cancer.  For Caucasians and others it is often cardiovascular.

Go Red for Women

By now you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. It kills nearly half a million women each year at the rate of about one per minute. They are our sisters, mothers, daughters, friends, neighbors and colleagues.

The annual Cleveland Go Red For Women Health Expo & Luncheon educates and raises research funds. The following two short videos are for you Medical Geeks.

First, Dr. Attizzani from University Hospitals in Cleveland explains OCT - Cardiovascular Optical Coherence Tomography which is a catheter-based invasive imaging system. OCT uses light rather than ultrasound and produces high-resolution images of coronary arteries and deployed stents.



Then Jeff Foster from University Hospitals Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Center in Cleveland shows devices to improve the quality of life for heart patients.

A Sea of Red

I always liked the old Sammy Hagar rocker called Red.

And I think about that song every year when it's time for the annual Go Red for Women event. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women and this event helps spread awareness of that fact.

Over 900 women attended the event last Friday and 99% of them wore red!
