Case Western Reserve University think[box]

Jeff Durek, Dean of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, spoke about the Sears think[box] which is center for innovation and entrepreneurship providing a space for anyone - students, faculty, and alumni and members of the community - to tinker and creatively invent.

Located in a 7-story, 50,000 square foot facility, with 4 floors occupied and more under renovation, this project is the largest open-access innovation center at any university in the world. Dean Durek called it the "Great equalizer."

Mapping Broadband Health at Data Days Cleveland

Amy R. Sheon, PhD, MPH Executive Director, Urban Health Initiative at Case Western Reserve University spoke at Data Days CLE, a 3-day event at the Global Center for Health Innovation bringing together experts and users in the fields of civic technology and data.

She showed maps and data indicating that Broadband is an equity issue that has many effects on health.

Obesity, Smoking, etc. in Cleveland – 500 Cities Project at Data Days

Scott Frank, MD, MS from the Case Western Reserve University spoke at Data Days CLE, a 3-day event at the Global Center for Health Innovation bringing together experts and users in the fields of civic technology and data.

Dr. Frank used data from the 500 Cities Project to map conditions and behaviors such as obesity and smoking.   The 500 Cities project is a collaboration between CDC, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the CDC Foundation.

The purpose of the 500 Cities Project is to provide city- and census tract-level small area estimates for chronic disease risk factors, health outcomes, and clinical preventive service use for the largest 500 cities in the United States.

Israel and Arab world unite against Isis?

Former President of Lebanon (1982-1988) Amine Gemayel spoke at Case Western Reserve University on the topic: Managing the World Crisis of the Middle East: Imperatives and Alternatives.

He was asked about the possibility of Israel and the Arab world uniting to defeat Isis.

Ramez Islambouli, a native of Lebanon and Arabic language professor at Case Western Reserve University, asked if he would support the election of a president of Lebanon even if not a Christian?

He was asked about the return of the presidency in Lebanon (and also about the US presidential elections) and said that Lebanon has been kidnapped.

 He was asked specifically about the situation in Syria including the No Fly Zone, Russia and the US and so on. He said the major powers were using the situation for their own interests.

He spoke about Syria, refugees, Iran, Russia, the US, Isis and more.

CWRU’s David Fleshler introduces former Lebanon president Gemayel

David Fleshler, Vice-Provost of international affairs at The Center for International Affairs at Case Western Reserve University introduced former President of Lebanon Amine Gemayel. 

He also told the President of Case's international students and programs and numerous Nobel winners.

Ambassador Richard Armitage – Is the US in decline?

Ambassador Richard L. Armitage, former deputy secretary of state (2001-2005) and president of Armitage International was the keynote speaker at the Case Western Reserve University Center for International Affairs International Achievement Dinner.

Ambassador Armitage said he is always asked two questions: Are we in decline? And is the world in a mess?   He answered both questions.
