At the 2015 Cleveland GiveCamp #CleGC, over 200 volunteers donated their tech skills to create websites, apps and more for 19 local non-profit organizations.  The volunteers worked around the clock in one weekend at Burke Lakefront Airport and LeanDog’s boat in Cleveland.  At GiveCamp a game was created for Veggie U.  Veggie U is a unique 5-week program taught in the Life Science module of elementary school, usually third or fourth grade. The program comes complete with 25 standards based lessons and all the components needed to grow a garden right in the classroom. Students not only learn about photosynthesis and leaf types like traditional lessons, but they also "get their hands dirty" planting and growing real food!  http://www.veggieu.org/

Slovenian Consul General Jure Zmauc spoke at a farewell event at the Polka Hall of Fame.  He is going back to Slovenia after 6 years in Cleveland and the US.  He told a story of a Slovenian family who came to the US with no money and didn’t speak English.  They were told to go to Cleveland where they were welcomed.

August Pust, dean of the Cleveland Slovenian community, and Euclid Councilman Jim O’Hare encourage everyone to visit the Slovenian and other Cultural Gardens on One World Day on August 23, 2015.  This is the official, City of Cleveland approved, 70th annual One World Day in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. Baldwin Wallace Dean Dobberstein at 2015 Continental Cup

Trina Dobberstein, Ph.D. Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students of Baldwin Wallace University, welcomed the crowd to the school at the opening ceremony of the 2015 Continental Cup put on by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. She spoke of the statue of Harrison Dillard on the Baldwin Wallace campus. Dillard won 4 Olympic Gold medals and was a big proponent of competition. #CCup2015 http://www.clevelandpeople.com

The Cleveland Donauschwäbische Blaskapelle (brass band) played a polka at the celebration of the 99th year of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.  People gathered in the German Cultural Garden in Cleveland in front of the huge Goethe-Schiller statue. Band director Julie explained that the band also plays Czech, Slovenian and Hungarian songs as well as German and they are the house band at Lenau Park for the German Cultural Club.  The Donauschwabens are a people that settled near the Danube River and later named Danube Swabians. The Danube Swabians continued to speak German and keep their German traditions alive.

Hans Kopp represents the German Garden in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation. He spoke at an event in the German Cultural Garden in Cleveland to celebrate the 99th year of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.  Hans told about the huge monument to Goethe and Schiller in the Garden and some of the other busts, like Beethoven and Bach.  60,000 people attended when the Goethe-Schiller monument was unveiled.
